Like I said in another post, I've been back in touch with Jeff M. lately and he seems in pretty good spirits. After a few months of emailing back and forth, I finally broached the subject of doing an interview since we both had a good time doing that back in '97/ '98, and in that time have spoken intermittently of doing it again...
Anyway, to start with at least, I have 7 questions to ask the man, via email. I want to send them to him quickly. This is serious! Thanks for your time.

Re: Questions for Jeff?
Tue, May 10, 2005 - 7:23 PMWow, that's fantastic.
Faced with this chance, I'm at a loss for what to ask. I would love to know more about the complex narrative that runs through "Aeroplane"... how and why he's connected the characters singing and being sung about, but that would take away the mystery.
There's the obvious question, but I'd think it would be a bit tactless to ask when he might be recording new material (NMH or otherwise). Through, I read at Pitchfork a while back he was working on a new collection of earlier and unreleased NMH material, I wonder if he's still working on that?
Would you be willing to share with us your questions so far (or even just general topics you want to ask about)?

Re: Questions for Jeff?
Tue, May 17, 2005 - 7:11 PMI'd be interested to know the story of his obsession with Anne Frank....how old was he when he first read her. How did his interest manifest itself other than through music? How did he identify with her? What were some of his thoughts after reading her work.
Did he expect such a powerful response would come out of these songs?
What are some of the wildest responses from fans that he's received? (other than starting a tribe group for a band that broke up years ago).
I can understand the hesitation to hear explanations about neutral milk hotel songs, but I don't think that's what I'm going for here. I'm more interested in the creative process itself. The work stands on its own.
